This is one of the hardest posts I have had to write - on Friday the 26th August 2016 at 12,15 I had to put my darling Missy Blue to sleep. A decision that many of us have to make - for that one day YOU have to play GOD!
Missy Blue - everyone who knew her - loved her - the children at various educational events where she taught them - how to be responsible around dogs - how not to fear dogs but also how NOT to approach strange dogs without permission from your parent and the owner. Brave in her battles with epilepsy - her fight against pnemonia in 2011 - her stomach disorders and finally pancreatitis a battle she lost. Most of all her little 'Ladylike personality' - she was definitely a 'little person dog'. She gave me and many so much love and happiness all her life with me - One thing I could do for her - is let her go.
You go into your vet who you trust and who knows your dog so well (My dear vet used to call her his valentine) and you hope he can work one more miracle - one more chance - one more month, week - just one more day - BUT he can't - and when two weeks before - Ben said 'We all love Missy Blue - But we can't always work miracles - I knew in my heart - time was not on her side.
That morning I took her - Before I went her two canine sisters Kiki and Chelsea Rose went upto where she lay - and each one licked her face - surrounding her as they said Goodbye. But I still had hope - I still pushed all doubts to the back of my mind -Waiting for that MIRACLE -but it never came and then she looked at me with those beautiful eyes and she licked my tears - resting herself gently in my arms -
'Mum - I am ready - its time.' and with my heart so broken I feel it will never mend I held her until her last breath - My Beautiful Beautiful Girl- How I miss you so
RIP Missy Blue - 26.08/2016

Make your walks more interesting especially as your dogs get older and can not go so far and even a car ride is not a regular option. Also if new to the area - get a local map - explore new routes - dog friendly parks - and also go and visit your local vet register your dog.
Take your dog different routes - they soon get bored of the same place - every day - vary your walks during the day - it also stops dogs from being too territorial in their behaviour - especially when a new dog enters a place they consider their second home! Also you will meet more fellow dog owners and maybe get to go out together to investigate other interesting walking areas.
Also get creative - have your own 'agility course' in your garden - (Agility Clubs especially in the city are hard to find) Make it suitable for your individual dog - senior dogs to little small dogs can take just as much delight in jumping over a low makeshift jump as a bigger or younger dog from a higher jump. Some bamboo canes for a makeshift weave - and also check the internet for cheap but suitable agility equipment which is light and easy to carry and put away in your garden shed. In the summer I get out the old childrens plastic swimming pool - small enough for the garden but big enough for the dogs - they love it after a play in the garden and it keeps them cool.
Enjoy your walks but most of all your dog will enjoy them too and become more socialised and more mentally stimulated as well as physical

Dog Rest is important when your dog has sustained an injury and as every dog owner knows 'Dog Resting' is not on their pet's agenda especially a young dog - and though a crate is an alternative to some - they still need that 'scent and smell of the outside world' - their wistful look at others playing in the park when they are allowed their 'first' ten minute walk on lead!! No you are not their faviourite person -
Also you are then told by your 'wise and quite 'correct' vet that your dog must 'lose weight' or certainly 'not gain weight - so what do you do with a 'WannaBe BouncingLivewire' - Remember - No Jumping - No Chasing and no big interaction with their canine pals - and not even The Supervet to watch on TV - What a Dogs Life.
Dogs need mental stimulation as much as physical and more so if the physical is limited to block walks or around the garden and back ON LEAD -
I have been working with a beagle that has a back injury and after two weeks of bed rest is now on 10 minute walks - imagine her frustration - her main joy in life as a beagle is scenting - taking in the smells of the world! So we worked out to put plant pots in the garden filled with different scents from her usual walk put her on a fairly long lead (different from her walking lead) - letting her scent and smell - then just sitting outside with her - She actually seemed to be taking a deep breath of the smells around her and was calm. Then again - a gentle sniff around her 'new scenting pots' and then rest. On her block walk we took her away from the direction of the park - - a different corner of the street - stopping for five minutes and then turning back - again - a different corner of the street - stopping for five minutes - then back home.
NB Before we did this exercise his owner spoke to the vet to get his okay obviously we did not want to overdue it and hinder her recovery.

Another year has gone already - 2015 was a year of new Dog Laws - More Dogs and kittens abandoned or surrendered to the already full up rescues around the country. In Romania more stray dogs were cruelly killed by equally evil 'dog catchers' - in Spain a rescue still seeks the 'Missing Spanish Pups in Uk' - adopted by J Steenson in Glasgow and only notified in October 2013 that they had gone 'missing' - Last known location in Leith - the adoptee not disclosing any more details. Thousands on facebook are still helping to trace these four pups who will be two years old now. I have become involved with an amazing rescuer of Poundies Shelle Alders who with her committed volunteers helps fund - rescue - foster dogs that would otherwise after Seven Days in a Council Pound be euthanized - I have also met some brilliant dogs with just a little patience - understanding and training guidance have been adopted or in foster awaiting furever homes.
Taz whose main desire in life is muddy puddles and lots of love adopted by Sam - Dice a stunning boy who
just needed socialisation and introuduction to the day by day environment. Lucus who was a troubled soul who we loved and thought he had the perfect home but sadly not.
In 2015 I was awarded a small sub contract from Queens Park Parish Council to continue my educational animal care and welfare groups - helping with advice and training with dog owners on low income yet desperate for help with their adored dog. Also working with the local warden and dog warden for Westminister on Dog Patrol and educational seminars - Free Microchipping Events - Issuing free dog vouchers for spaying and neutering - so far ten dogs have been spayed this year (vouchers courtesy of Dog Trust). I have been out to Chobham Surrey for a one day Masterclass in understanding when 'Its Dog Play or Fight' and an update on Dogs Behaviour - Scenting - Fear of other dogs and their reaction. Each year I make sure I sign up for one of Sarah Whiteheads amazing Masterclass in Dogs Behaviour - we can never stop learning about Dogs Behaviour.
I have also observed the 'Big Brother' attitude of the 'Powers that be' to people that want to work yet this new government want to avoid helping and literally make it very difficult for small businesses and low income workers to survive doing the work they love and feeling good about earning a living rather than sit at home and do nothing - Am I being political - not really - just stating a fact. So for myself and many I am sure in the year of 2016 will do everything they can to seek more work - work harder and not give up the job they love and that makes them feel part of the community and most of all - a human being.
So good luck - keep helping - rescuing and remember there is always someone a lot worse off than us - prayers for the poor people - animals - that have suffered during the floods. The refugees that have no homes - lost children - families - wildlife that greedy hunters are killing and making extinct - strays all over the world that are being beaten killed - by countries that have no welfare - no sanctuary - no heart.
Happy New Year of 2016

Dog Theft., Microchipping (all dogs must be microchipped before the 1stApril - This will be a legal requirement!!) and thinking seriously about adopting - buying a dog or a pup just before Christmas - Well maybe You might just THINK AGAIN!!
How many dog owners of all ages Realise that by April 2016 ALL dogs must be microchipped - and it will be part of the Dog Laws already in force. On 17th December 2015 at St Judes Hall 67 Ilbert Street Queens Park London W10 4QJ - 10am-12midday Vicki Bannan our Westminster Dog Warden and myself and the Environmental Warden Nuno Reis will be microchipping - offering advice on dog behaviour and animal care and free neutering vouchers sponsored by Dog Trust can be obtained. This service is free but most importantly is open to all dog owners in the Borough of Westminster.

Dog Theft
Dog theft is on the increase all over the UK and especially now just before Christmas when small dogs and puppies have been stolen to meet the demand for 'designer dogs'. That does not mean that other larger breeds are not safe from these evil predators.
Make sure your dog - pup is not left alone outside shops - in cars or even in the garden UNATTENDED. It takes minutes to steal your dog. I have actually been outside a shop for over fifthteen minutes before an owner came out to her unattended dog and she was very upset when I told her about what COULD Happen - hopefully she Or anyone else I have spoken to won't do it again. Take your dog out before or after you shop for a walk - Am I being 'over the top' - no I have seen too many times what has happened to dogs left alone and it breaks your heart. Also when you get an id tag - just put your mobile number - and never put their name - and hopefully they are microchipped so put scan me - Be Aware when walking at night or poorly lit areas. Keep your pet safe
Most Rescues do not home animals two weeks before Christmas for the simple reason - having a new dog or new pup in the house just before and during the festive season is not good for the dog and can be all too overwhelming for the new 'owner'. Especially a new pup - (But the kids wanted a puppy for Christmas) A pup is not a toy - and he certainly does not come with a 'toilet training kit' 'chewproof' and with all the frantic activity of Christmas - before and on Christmas Day with visitors - Have you really thought it through!!
Think about the breed - If you have the time and committment for the next ten or fifthteen years - holidays and so the list goes on. After Christmas and things are back to normal and you feel ready then go to a local rescue and I am sure like every year there will be lots of 'Christmas pups' abandoned to choose from.

Where has the the time gone. Where do I start regarding my latest 'dog projects' 'dog workshops' 'dog patrols' and educational advice groups regarding Animal Care and Responsibility!
In August I was awarded a contract by our first London Parish Council to help with dog issues in the area and also start workshops for the community of Queens Park and various projects for both dog owners and non dog owners.
I joined the local Environmental Officer and dog warden for Westminster on their 'dog patrol' around the local area of Queens Park in August 2015. Though Queens Park has many responsible dog owners who have their dogs on leads and pick up after their dogs {this is one of the by laws and dog owners can be given a fixed penalty for not complying} there are some that constantly ignore the rules on both counts. Many offenders were found to let their dogs off lead in the childrens play area and led to constant dog fouling. Since working with the dog patrol four fixed penalties have been given out after dog owners given cautions and warnings. I am sure that no one both dog owners and non dog owners want their children - grand children being victims of dog mess!! As a dog owner myself I certainly did not want to be stepping in dog mess every time I went into the park
Education regarding Animal Welfare - Dog Care and Responsibility and also addressing childrens fear of dogs and how to approach dogs in public places to me is very important - and I am lucky to have the full support of Queens Park Public Library who give me access and time slots so I can arrange events to reach out to ages from 5 - 12 and their parents and offer advice and information regarding our pets in the home and local parks.
Dog Workshops commenced in September - October - This workshop was for dogs that had certain social issues - ie fear aggression - interaction with other dogs - recall and pulling on the lead - Also one on ones were arranged for dogs that needed individual help with training or behavioural issues. The next workshop will be on Sunday 29th November for small breeds from 12pm-1pm and for large breeds 2pm-3pm
Bonfire night has been but not necessarily gone!! Fireworks will still be going off over this weekend and probablly the next week end as well. Firework Displays or in your own garden should be supervised and controlled and thats not me being a Party Pooper but firstly you hear so many stories of accidents happening
not only with children but our pets - some pets run off in fright - some get injured - some do not survive so check bonfires before you light them - (for wildlife) keep your dogs and cats away safe inside - and of course make sure your children are well away from the fireworks and bonfire - Keep safe and keep your precious ones safer

Traveling on Public Transport with your pet (s)
Even if you DO own a car I am sure you might have to use public transport at some time with your pet but imagine having to rely on the courtsey and approval of public transport both of the 'driver' and the public passengers on a regular basis.
Many of the Public Transport Providers in UK Do have provision in place for you to travel with your 'Fido the poodle 'Freddie' the Husky or 'Mollie' the English Bull Terrier in tow but OFTEN with strict stipulations in place especially on buses where it is at the 'discretion' of the driver!!
How many times have I been on buses (minus my own dogs) but been witness to a 'drivers discretion' or in some cases 'he doesn't like DOGS with a capital D!! One time even - sticking up for one very obedient and
well behaved Springer Spaniel and ending up with both the owner - the dog and myself been thrown off the bus and threatened with possible interaction with an authority of the Law.
Or I have got on the bus with Missy Blue my whippet cross (wearing an Elizabethan collar - Missy not myself) and had a pleasant and dog friendly driver and met with sniffs - loud exclaimations - people jumping in the air - anything to get out the way of the 'Dangerous Fiend'!!
I pull Missy Blue firmly to my side - I mean I don't want her to 'Catch any of the ailments' of these irate and disgruntle passengers.
Traveling back on First Great Western who along with South West Trains allow two dogs per passenger with my two dogs who slept both ways there and back I and my friend had a great journey with both humourous and friendly ticket conductor and passengers alike. It was only when I reached Victoria Station that I had to wait over half an hour - five cabs later before Me myself and two small dogs were accepted by the Representatives of London Cabs!!
Guide Dogs should be allowed on any Public Transport but there have been news stories of Guide Dog Owners refused by Drivers and even one 'Dog Owner' told they should leave their dog behind when traveling!!!
Since 2012 and the relaxation of the UK pet travel (though all proper paperwork and vet checks and vaccinations are a legal requirement of travel) many more people are traveling abroad with their pets - where on Ferries - owners have to leave their pets during the trip in their cars - on the Eurotunnel shuttle dogs and owners travel together in their cars through the Channel Tunnel.
Just coming back from France and No I did not take my dogs but I saw many dogs out with their owners - not on walks through the green countryside but in the cafes and bars - in the markets and even the small Art Galleries - Maybe UK will Follow and once again become the Dog Loving Country - we once were

Rehoming a Rescue dog
We all see the photos of dogs - needing homes - or in - council dog pounds (desperately needing rescue) - or the ones abroad who have spent most of their lives on the streets or lying old and broken in shelters - and we want to save them all.
In Rescues dogs are brought in - some as strays - others rehomed by members of the public and though a form is filled out by the previous family - not all give 'nothing but the truth' - some even put behavioural problems as the reason for rehoming - needing a reason to give their 'family pet' up - others - they have no time - or - the dog is old - a new baby and the list goes on. Most Rescues assess the dogs as best as they can but when we take on that dog - senior - unwanted puppy - and sign those 'adoption papers' we take on the responsibility - the care and the readjustment of that 'new family member'.
Imagine - just how that dog feels - either coming in from the streets (they must have had a family once) or being 'abandoned' by their family - then comes into a new 'temporary home' - new scents - new people - just beginning to trust - settle - and then we come along - and another journey - another new destination.
Scarey - stressful - a few accidents (even though they are toilet trained - not aggressive - and were very friendly when you first 'fell in dog love' at the animal center).
Being rehomed is stressful for any rescue dog - and it takes time and patience for them to feel safe and secure and also feel they are not YET again be 'moved on' - your dog is like an 'orphaned child' that has no
'sense of belonging' - and the initial settling in period could trigger conflicts with new owners early on if not properly understood and gently introduced into their new surroundings and time for bonding and behaviour assessment.
When you first get your dog home - Do not overcrowd him - of course friends and relatives want to meet the new addition to the family - but not on the first day or even not for a few days - just let him or her settle in with you - and the immediate family - make sure doors and garden gates are secure (some dogs are great escape artists - thats how some of them got to be found as strays- or with street dogs from abroad their fear of the unknown makes them excellent houdinis). Your new dog might have a pretty low social competence and hardly any confidence in #newsettings and though you might have had a meet and greet with your other dog (s) at the centre - in your home environment the reality of being confined in a different setting with lots of different sounds and people can be a whole different ball game - dont leave toys out or food - observe both your dogs behaviour and the new dog - watch their interactions - if the rescue has given you any advice please heed it - also most rescues in UK and from abroad send a qualified home checker to see you before you adopt - if you have other dogs they will meet them and give feedback to the rescue - some dogs are rehomed as 'the only pet' - and even if they are fine with other dogs in the park can not share their 'home' with other pets - even visiting ones especially on 'first days of being in the new home'.
One of the mistakes we can make - especially with initially shy or nervous dogs is to keep invading their space - -" wanting to make up for the 'previous unknown life they have had'' or 'pressuring them to 'obey rules and setting boundaries - too soon - or they are not ready to 'take in' just yet. This not done on a gradual basis could make them regress and bring out a fear based defensive reaction not necessarily to you but other dogs or people
I have three rescue dogs - two from UK and one from Greece all females and all had their own stories to tell
and they are great dogs but it took time - and there were frustrations - they all have their individual traits - and their trials and tribulations before their final forever home - were - unknown but their scars showed through.
The early phase of a rescue dog's rehabilitation can often be hard - tough on the owner - scary and unknown for the dog - sometimes an adoptor can feel 'What am I doing wrong' 'Why does he not listen to me' 'I can not give up on him but .....' 'Do I give up' - As a home checker - I always say if you need help or just a little friendly boost or advice on any behavioural problem no matter how small contact your home checker or the rescue - take things gradually - be realistic with your goals placing less pressure on yourself and most importantly the 'rescue dog' you have brought into your family because they deserved a chance of life.
If you feel you need a one on one training ask the rescue or your vet if they can recommend a good trainer - or a good recommendation from a friend - check if the trainer has full pet business insurance - ask their experience - and most trainers will be quite happy to give you a run down of what the assessment and training session will entail.

January 2015
Already into the New Year of 2015 - January the month starting off getting back into the working mode - the new projects - the new beginnings and the loss of friends both human, canine and feline.
The month of January started off with the first Dog Workshop in Queens Park W10 of 2015 - the weather colder than ever and the dogs more eager to go back to the comforts of home than learn #nottojump #howtocomebackwhencalled and #walkingonlead!! Some like #Ghost and Rex two German Shepherds were keen to get the pawty started - others like Mags and the Beagle were not so keen!!
The month of January saw the loss of a friend that spent her life helping others and her rescue and love of animals over 30 years was well known. A Lady that would help the homeless both two and four legged - I remember one time she was walking one of her dogs and a lady was taking a 'senior healthy' yorkshire terrier' to the vets. My friend asked 'What was wrong with him' - the reply was ' I can not have him any more so I am having him put to sleep' - My friend took his lead and said - 'You cant do that - I'll take him' and Tooney the Yorkie lived a good few more years as 'Top Dog'. I always say why do the 'beautiful animal angels' always leave us too soon. Blessings my friend - RIP
The month of January a NEW Year for some and the END of an Era for others.

31st December 2014
The end of one more year - a year of working with all breeds of dogs - a year of being the voice of animals who have no choice but to feel the pain of captivity - abuse or victims of the ONGOING law that destroys families - seperates canine pals and in a lot of cases KILLS healthy vibrant family dogs who are seized not because of dangerous dog issues BUT being born TYPE - THIS law - BSL. RIP all those we could not save - newly born pups - seniors - who died alone not knowing WHY!
The end of one more year where our precious pets - rescue dogs who we have rehomed - and watched grow - who have held a special place in our heart. The loss of our feline and canine family members who at their passing have taken another piece of our hearts as we say our 'Final Goodbyes' and gently lay them down to their final sleep.
My Darling Maisy - who I rehomed in 2002 to a wonderful couple - who even when my own 'dog behavioural business' started to build up I still never gave up walking her - Maisy who ran after everything that moved - 'joggers' 'small fluffy dogs' 'horses' - bikes - Maisy who was the first dog to be banned from the residential gardens of Kensington W11. Maisy who gave the best kisses - who laid in my arms and when you really met her and she liked you - you fell in love with such a deep and beautiful love that took a part of your heart that broke in two when she was first diagnosed with cancer and when she died at the end of this year I felt a loss so great that tears filled up and overflowed with pain. Maisy my beautiful girl as your dear owners said You were a huge part of our lives - we all rescued you - we all cherished you and what a bl.....dy good life you had and how blessed we were to have known your love.
RIP Darling Girl You will never be forgotten.
To Marsha Jones who lost her Ruby Girl so soon before Christmas and whose presence is so missed by all that knew her especially her human family and her canine pals Benny and Doris. Ruby - daughter of Tilly - Ruby a shining light - Ruby a sweet staffie girl who gave so much love and asked for nothing in return. Thoughts and Sweet Memories will be treasured evermore. Run Free Sweet Ruby forever shining bright.
The end of the year of dog workshops - educational projects - old ones gone but new ones in sight - White City Estate my next 'dog training educational classes' project - where already a lot of dog owners are looking forward to participating in training sessions - both educational and enlightening. A big TASK maybe - am I looking forward to it - you bet!!
It leaves me one last message - continue PETITIONING against what isnt right
continue - PROTESTING against the Fur Trade - Factory Farming - Animal Slaughter - Puppy Farms and Dog Laws that make the dogs the victims and the let Abusers walk away - And remember WHEREVER a dog or any animal needs SAVING - wherever they are in the world - surely they ALL deserve a chance and our SUPPORT.
Happy New Year

November 2014
A month of loss - A month when new laws have been put into operation regarding our four legged friends - new Dog Laws that again make many dogs and their owners the victims of over zealous authorities and new laws that already have claimed the lives of two dogs that I know of myself - and have felt the grief of both owners!
One was a twelve year old staffordshire bull terrier lab cross - it took just thirty seven minutes to decide whether he lived or died - he was ordered to be destroyed - Rest Your Sweet Soul Luga. No loving arms to hold you - no final words of goodbye.
The other was a mixed breed small dog who bit an intruder and under this law that victimizes many innocents were responsible for the ending of her life.
What about the (words can never describe what I would like to call them) thug that beat a dog he obtained off Gumtree - Tyson a staffordshire bull terrier who he left to die or the woman who abandoned her boxer cross in her house when she moved - the poor dog died of kidney failure - in agony - tins of dog food just out of reach. - And the dog fighting rings - organised by vicious evil beyond inhuman. They walk free or a paltry 'few weeks' board. Well done The Justice System - you really have proved we ARE a nation of ANIMAL LOVERS.
My pledge for 2015 is to keep fighting - being PART of the voice to urge the government to STOP - THINK - YES we need laws BUT TO PROTECT all animals against abuse - and Educate not only dog owners - the public - BUT also the media and the very officials themselves who carry out these very inhumane and outrageous laws and let abusers and animal killers walk free.
Join me anyone!!

#DogForum @St JudesHall Ilbert Street W10 2pm-4pm
Today the NEW Dog Laws come into effect which will make owning a dog in London especially and all over UK as even over zealous barking - over boisterous spirits can mean your dog getting an asbo or even you you yourself being prosecuted for being an irresponsible owner - Councils - environmental officials and the police will be allowed more 'control' over (in some cases) whether your dog LIVES or Dies. this covers all breeds of dog.
Yes Laws should be put in place - and yes Irresponsible owners should be held accountable BUT what about the 'victims' - dogs were not born bad - what about the increase in #dog fighting #backstreetbreeding #crueltycases - where is the law to protect them and prosecute the abusers with lengthy sentences - eight weeks imprisonment in extreme cases is usually the maximum sentence!!
Today in #QueensPark I will be sitting alongside local council and housing officers and the local westminister dog warden and crime prevention officer to offer both dog owners and non dog owners advice - about how this law affects the community - how you can hopefully get mediation before a prosecution case is brought against you. I will also be giving out contacts of Dog Law Solicitors Wheldons Law and DDA Watch who take up cases regarding prosecution. At least our council and community are trying to work together to make sure this law is discussed - advice given and overall work for not only public safety but for the safety and protection of our beloved residential pets

September 2014
I always wonder why in September when school begins after the long summer holiday - when I am walking my dogs #MissyBlue #ChelseaRose and #KikiDiamond - a lot of dogs I have seen in the summer months seemed to have disappeared!! I do not mean 'vanished' but are not seen out in the parks, the canal -
Have they suddenly become 'indoor dogs' or are they now taken out ONLY at midnight or dawn - I know kids have started school and life is buzy but hey a dog needs a walk or two or three!! Or have they literally been 'rehomed' or surrendered to a local animal shelter because sadly the amount of dogs and cats that have been given up or abandoned in UK alone has risen.
For years it has been 'bullbreeds' that have been found in rescues - dog pounds or just abandoned in the street - this year though bull breeds are still the most abandoned breed BUT more and more pedigrees BIG and small - are ending up in rescue. Are 'would be' dog owners buying these dogs from registered breeders and paying lots of money just to abandon them or are they going to pet shops - and letting the rescues pick up the pieces. Because out of most of the rehoming centres there are more and more un socialised dogs that can not be homed with other dogs - children under a certain age and some with no children at all!!
Have we really become such a 'Throw away Society' of our once precious pets - or is it so many back street or unregistered breeders that have crept out of the woodwork for a quick money making scheme - Do our laws need improving to oversee and regulate all breeders!!
In USA there are thousands yes thousands of dogs and cats killed every day in kill shelters - the most euthanized dogs are Pit Bull Breeds and the chihuahuas - puppy farms are many and growing - pet stores selling these sweet looking pups whose parents never see light of day or feel the hand of comfort living in cramped cages BUT then isnt UK becoming the same!! Thousands of dogs ARE killed - healthy loving dogs in council pounds and in some rescues where there is just too many abandoned dogs and NOT enough
homes waiting to take them.
We have Animal Welfare - We have Dogs Trust - Battersea - Blue Cross and numerous rescues But our LAWS for animal abuse, backstreet breeding are laughable and yet Our Dangerous Dog Act and BSL give over zealous and out of date authorities the right to seize dogs that are loyal loving and family pets that are in a loving home AND DESTROY without a second thought.
Myself I think until the Laws are made to protect the dog as well as the public and public funds are spent on Education about Responsible ownership and Neutering and Spaying your pets then the situation will get much more out of control than it already is.

Canine Culture Update for August 2104
August 2nd
What a month it has been, firstly we had the Queens Park Community Festival in its eleventh year in Queens Park Gardens W10 where we had a small dog show including categories 'Prince and Princess' ' Ilovemystaffi' 'Best Rescue' and 'Pup Idol'. A presentation by the Lord Mayor of Westminster of the Community Cup 2014 for the most 'Responsible Dog and Owner' - a joint win this year by Elvie the handsome black labrador and Maggie a gorgeous American Bull Dog. (photos coming soon). It was a great day for both dogs and the local community with amazing singing - and dancing acts.
August 8th
Everyone needs a break but when you got dogs and only one has a passport - or you don't want to put them through travelling abroad because of age etc - you miss them already before you have even left for the airport - and when you get there - you just feel 'Gosh How much they would love it here'!!
So my holiday break was short and sweet and after driving my poor 'dog sitter' mad with last minute 'rules' - I arrived in Nantes in France met by my friends Mary and Micheal and taken to meet the real reason why I was there (only joking Mary mmmmmmmmmmmmm) to meet Tess the stunning German Shepherd Rescue who was so warm and friendly - knowing a 'softy' when she saw one!!
The little rural village we stayed was beautiful and I spent wonderful hours exploring the fields - the local places of interest and of course the local village 'bars' - everyone smiling with a polite 'Bonjour' - thanks Mary and Michael and of course the lovely Tess for a great time. Oh and I must not forget the lovely little kitten Mary rescued and found a home for the day before I left - or I might have had an 'extra' 'someone to declare' as I went through customs!!!
13th August
Back with my precious girls - Missy gave me the 'How could you leave me' Look and 'cold shoulder' treatment for an hour or two!! Chelsea jumped up and down and lots of kisses - Kiki Diamond was 'Any chance of that chicken and rice' we were given when you were away!! But then an alert went out on Facebook that a 'Romanian Dog' had gone missing in W5 and Niz Khan and I went and fly posted in the area - thankfully she was found safe and well and now is reclining on the sofa with her grateful and relieved Mum.
17th August
White City www.canineculture.co.uk Dog Show
My first dog show in White City Estate - not a familar area even though I had visited a few times to post flyers of the Dog Show I still got lost when I got to the estate to find the venue for the show!!
Setting up the tables and marque for registration and putting the prizes and rosettes out - it poured down for about twenty minutes but thankfully the sun came out for the actual show - meaning a delay in starting. Thanks to my 'Dog Show Judges' Priya and Katie and help from Helen from the Parks Police and Ana and of course Emma Morgan from the White City Community Enterprise who invited me to organise the show.
From chihuahuas to huskies to jack russells to a rescued street dog - to a small staffie 'Pup Idol' to a large black and white 'staffie cross' - its what makes doing these events and my job just the #Best ever
Next Dog Advice Surgery @ GrandUnionPets 174 Shirland Road W9 is 30th August 2014 @ 2pm-3.30pm where you can bring your dog have a friendly chat with me and a cup of coffee
PLEASE REMEMBER
if you live in the Notting Hill area or are coming to the 'Notting Hill Carnival' on the Bank Holiday Weekend
24th-25th August PLEASE DO NOT BRING your dog - IT WILL BE TOO DISTRESSING FOR THEM. Even walking your dog in that area COULD SPOOK THEM - the noise - the crowd. If you go ENJOY but PLEASE leave your dog (s) at home - inside and NOT left alone in gardens

TRIBUTE TO BARNEY the Black Lab
Sadly Barney the loveable black lab passed away recently and sympathy goes out to Lena and Patrick who loved him dearly.
Barney was a typical lab full of mischief - and often deciding to 'go off on a wander' searching the streets of the local area for 'tasty titbits' like peoples lunch - 'A sandwich anyone?'!!
Barney had learned to open the front gate and then he was off 'either towards the canal or down the Harrow Road past the shops and then 'often' could be found outside Westbourne Park Station lying in the sun or looking for a 'pat or two' from the rail staff or the passing commuters!
'Lee' our local dog warden at the time used to pick him up calling his 'owners' who had taken so many different 'escape proof'' actions that left them feeling both frustrated and amazed that 'their canine peter pan' managed to 'outwit them' every time.
Was it the fact that he was given a 'tasty snack' and a bowl of fresh water at the station - or - was able to raid every available bin in sight or just the 'joy' of outwitting the very ones that he was so fond of!!
I had first met Barney when Patrick his owner was walking him as a bouncy young pup who would bound up to meet and greet everyone he saw - whether it was a snappy terrier or an indulgent Rottie -and he loved the postman (we often wondered if the postman helped him in his 'escapes).
Everyone knew Barney and Everyone loved him - and he will be missed by us all - well maybe not the ones who are still 'wondering' where their 'packed lunches' disappeared to - so with a fond farewell Adieu - Goodbye Barney - RIP and I am sure you will soon be creating havoc with all the other canine 'Angels'.

June 2014
Already into the summer month of June 2014 and already started my summer 'DogAdviceSurgery' in Queens Park Gardens - Dog Area on Mondays twice a month! Exciting - and Monday I met Lena a very friendly Staffordshire Bull Terrier - who loved people but due to a 'bad experience with another dog' she was a bit fearful when meeting new canine pals. Her recall was in need of attention but after a few training tips - and mmmmmmmmmm - a few tasty treats - she learned to 'rock and roll with recall'. My next one on one is two 'Bullies' - Father and son - need to get their social skills in order before they get given a local ASBO!! Meeting them again on Friday. Looking forward to the next one on the 22nd June @ 1pm - same time same place. Freckles the jack russell has already put his name down.
We have the Community Festival on 2nd August which means another big decision on who gets the 'Most Responsible Dog Owner for 2014' - Last year was a joint win for Olly the Golden Retriever and Gracie the Rescue Staffordshire Bull Terrier. I think this year will be a joint win as well - AND yes a very hard decision to make! We will be having a small dog show as well which is Free - Fun and with rosettes and prizes and of course the presentation of the cup. This event is also full of musical acts on a large stage - dancing - fun for the kids - stalls with lots of food of different countries - and a bouncy castle and activities for all ages
Since 2008 a cup is given out to a dog or dogs and their owner (s) for the most improvement - and advancement of both owners care and responsibility and dog's training and social skills. Each year their name or names are engraved on the cup and handed over by the previous years winner to the present. It is a great way of encouraging young and old to be more responsible and encourages all ages to attend training classes and learn about not only their dog but other breeds as well
Also I have got private funding from a small charity to have more Free Dog Training Classes for the community of Queens Park. Especially to work with Bull Breed owners if they need one on one sessions before coming to a 'Alldogbreeds WELCOME' class.
Saturday 14th June I have my Dog Surgery @GrandUnionPets #174ShirlandRoad at 2pm Bring your dog and come have a friendly chat and cup of coffee with me and get some Advice on your dogs behaviour or yours!! www.canineculture.co.uk

What a week it has been my computer 'died' and I got a new one which I still am adjusting to!!! So apologies firstly to my 'doggy clients' for a delay in their 'back up emails'. \One of my clients last week was a malamute six month old female who had already had at least three homes -rescued from Gumtree by a caring couple they needed an assessment on his behaviour and help with training and working out the best way of socialising her and settling her into a rountine and setting boundaries. Look forward to seeing her progress next week for the next training session.
The following day was a little pomeranian in W2 near Hyde Park - a great little chap just wasn't into joggers - policeman on horseback - and dogs Smaller than him - he would just like to run with the big guys even when they didn't really want to run with him!
Friday my 'boarder' Domino from Thailand went home to his mama - hoping for that last doggy snack before leaving. The weekend was full of muddy walks - wet dogs and even more muddier floors!!!
Monday was my birthday and before you ask 'age is just a number' - started off with a leisurely walk then a phone call regarding a small dog who had been seriously attacked by another dog who apparently had attacked another dog within 24 hours. Sadly the dog who attacked was known never to be walked and the only time he got out was when he managed to escape out the front door - a victim himself of an irresponsible owner!!
After getting the details from both owners of the dogs concerned and making a report I needed the white chilled wine and good food at the Thai restaurant and to celebrate my birthday with my friends and talk about what we love best - dogs!!
I hope everyone enjoyed the Bank Holiday despite the weather.

Working with Dogs
After a great Easter week end and spending time with my three dogs - all rescues - two from UK - and my latest family member being Kiki Diamond from Greece settling in well 'paws under the table' already!! I had to get back to work - to pay for their 'future' - pet insurance - food and of course vet bills!!!
And I do LOVE my work but 'working with dogs' and even though 'clients' give you as much details regarding 'history' - behaviour patterns - you still don't really know what the dog's real problems are until you meet the dog - the owner and all the family members!! Sometime you can get inquires from an 'anxious' or 'worried' owner -} 'Rescue dog' - Four years old - shows signs of aggression - lunging at people - 'or' a ten week old pup that is 'biting' - 'or' I have just castrated my dog and there is no change in his behaviour' - why hasn't he calmed down straight away - he is still aggressive even though he was castrated -} Castration does not solve a behavioural problem but can help when your dog meets another un neutered dog - a ten week old pup is not 'biting' but 'mouthing' - BUT you want to address the problem early before the pups 'mouthing' becomes biting as the pup becomes older - or - a Rescue dog that not much history is known but you find the lunging is - not aggressive but can be intimidating to others - but can easily be addressed by 'lead control' and then 'more training' off lead.
Tuesday I went to meet my client and his beautiful Belgium Shepherd - An adult - First thing he did on greeting me was to JUMP UP - the owner holding onto the lead with all the muscle he could - I stood still - folded my arms 'Blocking him' - he tried jumping up again - I turned my back again with a Block then turned back(No Verbal) and then he sat (immediately I was ready to greet him) - we were ready for the next step - walking on lead. In just a short time and using 'lead control' and the 'Block' and Rewarding Positive actions with Verbal Praise his owner could see a difference - and promised to carry on with the same technique and follow the routine I had set him. Looking forward to the next session in a couple of weeks.
Wednesday from a Belgium Shepherd to a chihuahua - a 'former' lapdog whose elderly owner had passed away and relatives had bought the dog to a rescue home - his new owner wanted her to socialise and learn how to walk on a lead - we feel that though the chihuahua was four years old - she had probablly never actually walked anywhere outside and the garden was her 'toilet area' in her last home. It was basically starting the training as you would do with a small puppy - which we did - her owner seemed impressed with the progress booked me for at least another couple of sessions!!
I indeed am lucky to be working with dogs but I also know that Insurance is SO important and even if you are walking YOUR dog or someone elses dog YOU should have third party insurance at least and when I see some dog walkers with their eight or ten dogs I DO wonder if they have insurance or even pay tax. IF you ARE walking someone elses dogs and are a dog walker YOU SHOULD have insurance that covers PUBLIC CARE AND LIABILITY .
NB I do KNOW some professional dog walkers that are fully insured and operate as a proper business But as I said there are quite a few that are not - so If looking for a dog walker in your area ask to see their insurance policies. I have full pet trainers insurance and have a copy on hand if any of my clients wish to see it. KEEP YOUR PET SAFE - THEY are family
